In the 44th year of the Kangxi Emperor's reign (1705), a monk named Cheng Heng, with the Dharma name Cheng Heng, built a temple called Putuo Temple on the east side of the official road, about three miles from the old south gate of Tianjin. At that time, the temple was very popular. In 1719, during Emperor Kangxi's southern tour, he passed by the picturesque Putuo Temple. The monk Cheng Heng, who was skilled in poetry and painting, engaged in a fluent conversation with the emperor, greatly pleasing him. Emperor Kangxi honored the temple by giving it the name "Haiguangsi," and this is the origin of Haiguangsi's name. So why don't we see Haiguangsi now? Over the course of history, it gradually faded away, yet the name "Haiguangsi" has been preserved in the form of a place name. Although the temple itself is no longer visible, Haiguangsi still has many historical museums to visit. Time may have erased its physical form, but it has not erased its traces.
